Introducing Turner Chiropractor Dr. Jon Powderly.

Dr. Jon Powderly

Dr. Powderly first attended a chiropractor for treatment of a severe back injury as a teenager.  That first experience sparked an interest that grew over the following years.  “The professionalism of that first chiropractor and the way he helped me with my sports injury really impressed me,” says Dr Powderly.

He initially studied to become a physical education teacher before working for a year as a physiotherapy assistant in a large Melbourne hospital.  During that year Dr. Powderly finally decided to become a chiropractor.

Dr. Powderly completed his five-year Chiropractic degree at R.M.I.T., graduating with the ‘Clinical Excellence’ award in 1995.  The initial years consisted of mainly basic sciences such as chemistry, biology, biophysics, anatomy and physiology.  The focus in the final years was on such subjects as diagnosis and management, pathology, x-ray and chiropractic technique – all geared towards developing the chiropractor as a spinal care specialist.

The education didn’t stop there.  “Each year my staff and I attend seminars to update our skills, so we are continually improving our quality of care,” says Dr. Powderly.

Since graduating, Dr. Powderly has worked in over 20 different clinics in five countries.  This included Spain, we he set up the first volunteer chiropractic clinic in Barcelona as part of a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.  Thanks to the work of many Barcelona chiropractors, this work still continues today.

Since opening the Canberra Spine Centre in 2002, Dr. Powderly has helped thousands of people in the Canberra region regain their good with chiropractic.

Dr Jon Asks some important questions of interest to Canberra residents - Chiropractor Canberra Dr Jon Asks...

If you have a fever, are you sick or healthy?
Chiropractors love asking this question because it gets to the root of the chiropractic difference. Turns out fevers, vomiting, coughing and even sneezing are all healthy responses. It means your body is working correctly. Taking medications to suppress these natural processes can actually prolong your recovery.
Why are chiropractors wary of the germ theory?
Louis Pasteur originated the idea that germs caused disease. Yet, on his deathbed he recanted, declaring, "It's not the seed, but the soil." Meaning, it's not the germ that causes disease, but the condition of the body that allows the germ to thrive. Chiropractic care in our Canberra office is designed to bolster your resistance so germs don't see you as a good host.
